Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

Image
Young adult, verse novel - Ages 14 to older “Will’s older brother. Shawn, has been shot. Dead.”  There is not much he can do beside following THE RULES: No. 1: Crying - Don’t. No matter what. No. 2: Snitching - Don’t. No matter what. No. 3: Revenge - Do. No matter what.  Holy crap. This book was magnificent- and I don’t say that a lot. From the start of this book I was hooked! This story follows the life of Will after his brother, Shawn is shot, and how Will goes on to follow “The Rules” but things seem to go upside down. I never thought that his novel could be so suspenseful and yet peaceful at the same time, from the ghosts on the elevator- or I am not really sure what they were, to the whole backstory of the gun. But I can definitely say that I will be keeping this book on my shelf for a very long time.  :)  My favorite thing about this book was that it was written in verse. Books are typed so powerfully into different formats, and Long Way Down was an example of how a book that

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Image
Adult, contemporary romance - Ages 16 and older When Tate Collins and Miles Archer unexpectedly knock into each other, quite literally, they can't deny the physical attraction toward one another. But they aren't friends, and Miles doesn't want to love anyone….. So they make a deal, involving only themselves and two rules: Don’t ask about the past, and don’t expect a future, Seems simple enough right? Though as time goes on “hearts get infiltrated, promises get broken, rules get shattered, and love gets ugly.”  I don’t even know how Colleen Hoover packs so much heartbreak and loss and love into one tiny 300 page novel, but it sure is addicting. Just like any book by Hoover, I heard many incredible reviews about Ugly Love and I decided to read it. But when I tell you this book was nothing like her other novels- such as It Ends With Us , I 100 percent mean it. Honestly I still can’t get over this book, even though I finished it last night at 1:46 am because I couldn’t put i

Lovely War by Julie Berry

Contemporary romance, historical fiction - Ages 12 to older “Hazel, a classical pianist from London. James, a British would-be architect turned soldier. Aubrey, a Harlem-born ragtime genius in the US Army. And Colette, a Belgian orphan with a gorgeous voice and a devastating past.”  Their stories are told by Aphrodite, who must twist their fate or face the judgment of Mount Olympus and the Gods.  Oh my lord, this book was pretty much the description of perfection, I almost can't put into words how much I enjoyed this book. *Chiefs kiss.* Lovely War by Julie Berry was one of the most stunning and timeless bestsellers I have ever read! Not to mention the magical sheen and Greek mythology added so much more interest and value to the storyline. I love that this story was written mainly from the perspective of Aphrodite, because as the Goddess of love, passion, and beauty, she truly captured the tension and rawness of love between both couples, and that made my heart smile. Not to men
